PlanetEd -- a planet editor for Master of Orion v1.3 PlanetEd Version 1.0 written by buggy@adam.com.au This program was written to allow you to customise the planets of the galaxy that you find yourself in. It is totally free! Feel free to distribute as widely as you like. It allows you to edit the following: * planet ownership * the base planet size * the planet population * the number of factories * the number of missle bases * the planetary shield value * the type of planet it is (from Terran to None) * the type of ecology it has (from Hostile to Gaia) * the type of bonuses it has (from Ultra-Poor to 4xTech) * the planets location on the map READ THIS --------- * In no way am I responsible for any damage these programs may cause. You use them at your own risk. They shouldn't cause any problems, however. * I make no claim about their usability. They work for me and should work for you, but I promise nothing. * All changes you make are written to the save file immediately. You have been warned. * This has only been tested on v1.3 of Master of Orion. It should not be used on other versions. ** You should but this file in the same directory as the save game files, not somewhere else on the path. Changes may not be kept if it is not in the same directory. Navigating the program ---------------------- To move through the planets, use the left and right arrow keys. In the top right corner is a number which is telling you what the active planet is numbered. If you reach the end of the planets and continue, you warp back to the beginning of the planets (eg 23 -> 0) and vice versa. Getting Help ------------ You can get help from the main screen by pressing F1. This tells you which keys do things, and very briefly what they do. It should be self explanatory. Exiting ------- You can exit by pressing either Q, q, or escape at the main screen. Some things you should know --------------------------- * If you give a planet a planetary shields you haven't researched yet, when you do research it you will be asked whether you want to build shields on your planets. * I have no idea when the outcome of taking away all the planets of a computer player would be. I assume that they would die but am not certain. * If you give yourself Orion but haven't defeated the Guardian, it will still be there, so any ships built there will go straight into combat with it, and building (or giving yourself) missle bases will also result in combat with the Guardian. Note that you also cannot control planetary expenditure on orion as it hasn't been explored yet. * The absolute maximum planet size is 300. So setting a base size to 300 means that those +40 terraforming techs become useless. * When setting a new base size, all sizes associated with it in the file are changed to this new size. So, changing a base 25 planet that has been terraformed to size 50, to a base size of 100 results in an increase of 50, but changing a base 50 planet that has been terraformed to size 120, to a base size of 100 results in a decreased capacity by 20. * You can gve yourself lots of factories, but need the technology to be able to use them. * Always remember that you pay for what you have. 1000 missle bases may sound liek a good idea at the time, but think twice... I hope you find this program of some use, and hope to hear from some of you. Feel free to email. Enjoy!
