MapEd -- a map editor for Master of Orion v1.3 MapEd Version 1.0 written by buggy@adam.com.au MapEd was written after I realised that being able to visualise changes to planet locations was impossible by just altering the x and y values with my other editor (PlanetEd). So I wrote up this editor to allow placement of planets in the galaxy. This is an SVGA editor (running in 640x480x256 colour mode). You need a graphics card with at least 512K of video memory to be able to run it (a limitation of the graphics library I'm using). You also need a microsoft compatible mouse driver installed. What this program does ---------------------- * It only does one thing: allows you to move planet locations around easily. If you want anything more, use one of my other editors (PlanetEd, ShipEd or RaceEd). How to use this program ----------------------- There are 3 parts to the screen: a map of the galaxy, information on the current planet and some brief help notes. Each planet in the galaxy is represented by a (green) point on the map. The current planet (the information of which you can see down the bottom) is depicted by a larger circle. To cycle through the planets, click on the buttons marked NEXT and PREV. Alternatively, you can use the left and right arrow keys on the keyboard to do the same. This is so you don't have to keep moving the mouse from the map to the buttons and back again. To move the current planet (the large circle), move the mouse cursor onto the map and click the mouse where you want the planet to be moved to. The map is the black part of the screen. To save the current map, click on the SAVE button. ** Until you hit SAVE, no changes are made to the save game file. To exit the program, click on the CLOSE button. Alternatively, you can press the escape key. If you have made some changes and click on CLOSE or press escape before clicking on SAVE, those changes are lost. Where not to place planets -------------------------- The map size shown is the maximum map width and height for a HUGE galaxy. If you are playing a small, medium or large galaxy, I recommend that you don't place the planets beyond the range of the edgemost planets already there. The maximum widths and heights are undoubtably smaller for the smaller sized galaxies, but I'm leaving it up to your good sense in planet placing. I'll be looking into scaling the map to reflect the galaxy size in future versions. I hope you find this program of some use, and hope to hear from some of you. Feel free to email. Enjoy!
